Michael I. Pappas is the Chief Executive Officer of The Keyes Company and Illustrated Properties, Florida’s largest independently owned real estate firm. Together, the companies operate over 50 offices with more than 4,000 associates across the state, supported by a comprehensive suite of services that includes Capital Partners Mortgage, HomePartners Title, Keyes Insurance, and Keyes Property Management. With annual sales and services exceeding $9.5 billion, The Keyes Company ranks among the largest independent brokerages in the United States. 

A Cum Laude graduate of Wake Forest University, where he majored in Business and Spanish, Mr. Pappas joined Keyes as a Sales Associate in 1980 and advanced through multiple leadership roles, including General Sales Manager, before becoming President in 1992 and later CEO. Under his leadership, Keyes has grown from a regional brokerage to a statewide network known for its enduring independence, innovation, and commitment to community. 

Mr. Pappas has been honored with numerous awards throughout his career, including the YPO Legacy Award, Price Waterhouse Real Estate Up and Comer of the Year, and South Florida Magazine’s Best Real Estate Deal of the Year. In 2015, RISMedia presented him with the Real Estate Tech Titan Award, and in 2017, he was recognized as the Industry Leader of the Year by the Miami Association of Realtors. He has appeared for seven consecutive years on the Swanepoel Power 200 list of the most powerful people in real estate, as well as in the Florida Trend 500 and the South Florida Business Journal’s Power Leaders 250. In recognition of his lasting impact on business and community leadership, Mr. Pappas is being inducted into the 2026 Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame. 

In 2019, Mr. Pappas was named a RISMedia Real Estate Newsmaker Luminary, and in 2022, he was inducted into the RISMedia Real Estate Newsmakers Hall of Fame and named one of the South Florida Business Journal’s Ultimate CEOs. Beyond his professional accolades, he is also a former Chairman of the Board of Leading Real Estate Companies of the World®, reflecting his leadership within the global real estate community. 

As Keyes approaches its 100th anniversary in 2026, Mr. Pappas continues to guide the company with a focus on innovation, authenticity, and connection—values that have defined the firm since its founding in 1926. Known for his belief that “real estate is about people, not just properties,” he has shaped Keyes into a culture of care that extends beyond transactions. Through Keyes Cares, he has helped raise nearly $2 million for the Dolphins Challenge Cancer and supports over 85 charitable organizations each year. A respected voice in the industry, Mr. Pappas has served as Chairman of the Board for Leading Real Estate Companies of the World® and continues to champion independent, community-centered real estate across Florida and beyond.
